🎬 Storyboarding and Planning

After the creative discovery session, we transition to the storyboarding and planning phase of the story. This is where we can block out your story to ensure we’re all on the same page. Think of this as a road map, a guide so that we’re all tracking together on the story. Depending on the scope of the project, we often bring in a project manager to keep our ducks in a row.

In essence, the storyboarding / planning phase saves the client money so we’re not going back and forth with extra shoot days. It’s also a smart approach to keep our story focused and within the length of the intended video. Without a plan, we risk losing story focus and then it becomes too cluttered with information.

The biggest issue I see today with video production is a story that should be 90 seconds turning into 5 minutes. That happens when a plan is not in place. I often say that we don’t want to throw 100 pounds into the 10 pound box. Essentially, we want the story to be short and simple with a beginning, middle and end. We need to focus our focus, and storyboarding & planning keeps us in check so that we don’t drift from the intended messaging.

Sure, we can be nimble and pick up extra shoots or interviews for the project, but those “extras” add to the cost of the project. The agreed upon storyboard aligns our video production mission. It also alleviates any potential stress for the client knowing they have a plan in place.
